Welcome to TYES!!!

We’re glad you found us. Our group was created when one of our members finally began to put the pieces together and understand that their child was born transgender. There had been signs along the way, feminine behavior in a male bodied child that started as soon as the child had the capacity to express any form of gender. There had been questions to teachers, friends, doctors and neighbors. All said it was nothing to be concerned about, the child would grow out of it. Then behaviors diminished some, but were replaced by anger and frustration. After much soul-searching and research, the parents began to understand the challenges their child faced. As part of trying to make a place for their child in the world, it seemed critical that the she meet other gender variant children, someone to relate to, a friend to play with that understood her. Through an internet support group, the playmate was found and TYES was born. Shortly after that first play date, in the fall of 2007, six families with children ages 5 to 17 met for a pot luck. And the group continues to grow. It has become a vital resource for all of our families.

TYES is dedicated to helping parents cope with their gender-variant children, and to help families find the information, resources, and the understanding that they need. While the youth enjoy each others company, the parents meet together to support one another. Often this support means helping families through the process of acceptance and understanding. We also work together to find solutions for children who are starting school in their affirmed gender. Sometimes we help each other understand the future regarding safety, hormones, emotional concerns and much more.

Most importantly, TYES provides children a safe place to be themselves without the harsh judgments they often encounter. In our short time as a group, we have seen several young people find a new sense of themselves. They find a freedom in knowing they are not alone, and in being with a group of people who celebrate them just the way they are.

TYES supports all families of gender variant youth, not just those that are transitioning or considering transition. If you would like to join us, please email us at the address below. Please know that we recognize that privacy is critical for our families and we work hard to protect the privacy of everyone in the group.
